Principal Change Management Consultant

Type: Internal hire — full-time W-2 employee of Innovation Consulting LLC

Location: Greater Los Angeles, CA — Onsite, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific

Salary: $200K – $245K per year, DOE

About the Role

Lead enterprise-wide change workstreams and direct a team of consultants, associates and analysts on a multi-year utility change portfolio, onsite in Greater Los Angeles. Innovation Consulting LLC is supporting a large utility serving Southern California and is recruiting a Principal Change Management Consultant for this work.

The ideal candidate is a fully self-directed practitioner who can hold multiple client relationships at once, design change strategy for large programs, and escalate risk to business owners before it becomes a schedule problem. Prosci Practitioner Certification is a hard requirement at this level.

You will be hired as a full-time employee of Innovation Consulting and deployed as a consultant on client engagements. This position is contingent on contract award, anticipated Q4 2026, with assignments beginning in late 2026 to early 2027.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Advisory

•     Provide strategic analysis, advice and education to executives and managers on enterprise change initiatives.

•     Lead the design and development of large enterprise-wide projects, programs, policies and processes.

•     Develop change management strategy documents that define change complexity, services required, activities against an execution timeline, and roles and responsibilities.

Delivery Leadership

•     Lead a team of consultants, associates and analysts across concurrent change workstreams.

•     Identify, manage and escalate issues, risks, timelines and deliverables to business owners.

•     Produce and review Prosci deliverables including sponsor assessments, ADKAR stakeholder assessments, change impact assessments, resistance management plans and reinforcement plans.

Client Relationship

•     Manage multiple client relationships across the utility's project portfolio.

•     Integrate with client project managers, human resources, sponsors and PMOs on enterprise-wide programs.

•     Deliver regular change management status updates to sponsors, human resources, project managers and other stakeholders.

Work Requirements

•     Primarily onsite at the client's offices in the Greater Los Angeles metro, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific. Not eligible for fully remote work. Candidates outside commuting distance must relocate to the area before assignment start.

•     The client provides equipment, workspace and systems access. Work is assigned and directed by the client's Organizational Change Management Senior Manager or designee, with as-needed field travel across the utility's Southern California service territory.

Qualifications

Required

•     15 or more years of total Principal-level work experience, with at least 5 years in organizational change management.

•     Demonstrated experience leading the design and development of large enterprise-wide projects, programs, policies and processes.

•     Experience leading a team of consultants, associates and analysts, and managing multiple client relationships concurrently.

•     Prosci Practitioner Certification — required, and verifiable by certificate number and date.

•     Advanced knowledge of organizational development and effectiveness best practices and their technical application.

•     Fully self-directed work with exception-only oversight.

•     Must be authorized to work in the United States.

•     Must reside within commuting distance of the Greater Los Angeles metro, or relocate to the area prior to assignment start.

•     Must be able to clear utility contractor onboarding, including background check and site safety orientation.

Preferred

•     Advanced degree in Psychology, Organizational Development, Organizational Design, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.

•     Experience with regulated utilities, energy or another CPUC-regulated industry.

•     Experience aligning change delivery with an enterprise change management strategy or organizational effectiveness function.

•     Additional certification such as CCMP (ACMP) or Kotter.
