Lead Journeyman Electrician
Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA (field-based across the Bay Area, Central Valley, and Sacramento region)
Salary: $50 – $65 per hour, DOE (approx. $104K – $135K per year)
About the Role
Innovation Consulting LLC is partnered with a merit-shop commercial and industrial electrical contractor headquartered in the East Bay to recruit several Lead Journeyman Electricians for field work across the Bay Area, Central Valley, and Sacramento region. The Lead Journeyman is a working lead who sits between the Journeyman and the Foreman. You stay on the tools most of the day while running a small crew on an assigned area or smaller job.
The ideal candidate is a certified journeyman with solid commercial or industrial install experience who is already the go-to person on the crew: the one apprentices learn from and the Foreman trusts to lay out and run a piece of the job. It's a natural step for a journeyman working toward foreman. The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership
• Lead a small crew of journeymen, apprentices, and helpers (typically 2–6) on an assigned area, system, or smaller project
• Assign daily tasks from the Foreman's plan, check work quality, and keep the crew productive and on schedule
• Train and mentor apprentices on installation methods, code, and safe work practices
• Run the area or job in the Foreman's absence
• Enforce PPE, lockout/tagout, and jobsite safety rules, and take part in weekly safety meetings
Installation and Layout
• Lay out conduit runs, boxes, panels, and equipment from drawings, and verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances
• Bend and install EMT, IMC, and rigid conduit, including cut and thread; set up and run hydraulic benders, threaders, and pullers
• Pull, terminate, and test conductors; set and wire panels, gear, lighting, controls, and devices
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and install to NEC, local code, and project specifications
Coordination and Reporting
• Report progress, material needs, and problems to the Foreman
• Help with material takeoffs, check deliveries against orders, and track material use in your area
• Keep redlines and as-builts current, and turn in crew hours and daily notes to the Foreman
• Coordinate with other trades and inspectors on your area of work
Qualifications
Required
• Current California General Electrician certification (journeyman)
• 5+ years of commercial or industrial electrical construction experience
• Experience leading a small crew, acting as lead, or mentoring apprentices
• Proficient in all common wiring methods and conduit systems, and able to read blueprints and electrical drawings
• Valid driver's license, clean DMV record, reliable personal transportation, and ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
• Willing to work at project sites within 100 miles of the East Bay headquarters
• Able to meet field physical demands: ladders and lifts, lifting 50+ lbs, and work in all weather
Preferred
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30; NFPA 70E training
• Aerial lift and powder-actuated tool certifications
• Industrial experience: rigid conduit, classified (hazardous) locations, food processing or cold storage facilities
• Commercial experience: tenant improvements, lighting and lighting controls, new services and upgrades
• Steady work history with multi-year tenure at prior employers
