Job Title: Marketing Manager for developers

Location: 100% Remote

Rate: $42-44/ hour

Duration: Through 6/30/26 - extension possible based on budget and performance


Purpose of the Role

The Startups Developer Marketing Manager drives developer acquisition, activation, and engagement for early‑stage startups by owning the end‑to‑end developer marketing strategy. The role builds technical narratives and content systems that help startup developers and CTOs adopt Azure, modern AI tooling, and the broader Startups ecosystem. This position blends technical fluency, content leadership, and cross‑functional collaboration to influence how thousands of next‑generation builders interact with out client's technologies.


Typical Day in the Role

A typical day includes analyzing developer engagement signals, refining weekly priorities, and creating or shaping technical content such as tutorials or workflow guides. The role collaborates frequently with engineering, DevRel, industry, and PM teams to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with upcoming launches. Work also includes optimizing channel strategies, evaluating performance data, updating briefs and editorial backlogs, and translating insights into recommendations that influence product and go‑to‑market decisions.


Key Responsibilities

1. Developer Strategy and Audience Ownership

  • Own the developer marketing strategy for startup developers and CTOs.
  • Understand developer needs, workflows, friction points, and adoption triggers.

2. Developer Content Creation and Editorial Leadership

  • Build and scale repeatable developer content formats, templates, and editorial standards.
  • Produce high‑credibility technical content including tutorials, workflow guides, sample‑code narratives, and product explainers.

3. Channels, Distribution, and Growth

  • Lead channel distribution strategies across developer pathways, communities, and scalable content systems.
  • Use performance metrics, usage data, and developer signals to optimize reach and engagement.

4. Cross‑Functional and Ecosystem Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, DevRel, product, industry teams, and Startup Success to ensure technical accuracy and narrative alignment.
  • Support ecosystem programs such as the Pegasus Startups Investor Network.

5. Developer POV, Research, and Insights

  • Conduct ongoing research to understand developer signals, workflows, and preferences.
  • Represent the voice of startup developers and CTOs across product, marketing, and program teams.

6. Measurement, Influence, and Continuous Improvement

  • Define success frameworks for developer marketing.
  • Use data to refine content, improve activation, and guide cross‑functional decision‑making.


Performance Measurement

  • Success is evaluated using the following criteria:
  • Delivery of high‑quality, technically accurate developer content.
  • Positive impact on developer engagement and progression in the startup funnel.
  • Use of data and developer signals to refine content and channel strategies.
  • Effective cross‑functional collaboration and influence with engineering, DevRel, industry marketing, and Startup Success.
  • Ability to operate autonomously, manage an editorial backlog, meet deadlines, and provide clear, actionable insights.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or marketing field preferred (or equivalent experience).

Experience

  • 3–5 years in developer marketing, developer advocacy, technical product marketing, or related technical content roles.
  • 2–4 years working with Azure or another major cloud provider.
  • Proven history creating technical content for developers or startup technical audiences.

Core Skills

  • Fluency in developer tooling, cloud architecture, CI/CD pipelines, Git‑based workflows, and modern AI-assisted development.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical topics into accurate, credible content.
  • Experience building or scaling content systems, templates, or standards.
  • Ability to collaborate directly with engineers and technical founders.
  • Data-driven mindset for optimizing channel and content performance.


Candidate Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Developer‑focused marketing experience.
  • Technical fluency with Azure and modern developer tools.
  • Ability to create credible developer content.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering or DevRel teams.


Ideal Background

  • Technical storytelling experience for startup developers across industries such as AI, healthcare, security, or retail.
  • Experience working in early‑stage startup environments or with technical founders.
  • Ability to define repeatable technical content patterns, systems, or frameworks.


Candidate Preparation Requirements:

  • Examples of prior developer-focused content
  • Familiarity with Azure services and AI offerings
  • Understanding of startup developer workflows
  • Ability to articulate an approach to scalable content system design
