Job Title: Technical Instructional Designer, UX Content

Location: 100% ONSITE, 5X/ WEEK - Redmond, WA

Rate: $85-87/ hour

Duration: 6/30/26 - extension expected based on performance and budget


The Technical Instructional Designer, UX Content plays a critical role in shaping internal employee experiences through high‑quality UI and technical content. This position supports the development of campus experience tools and backend systems that enable those experiences. The role partners closely with designers, researchers, program managers, and product managers to translate complex requirements into clear, consistent, and engaging content that aligns with UX writing and content strategy standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with design, research, program, and product partners to gather requirements and define content solutions.
  • Write and refine UI content that supports intuitive, usable, and trusted internal tools.
  • Shape and maintain product voice and tone across platforms.
  • Audit, standardize, and govern terminology and taxonomy across experiences.
  • Develop technical and instructional materials, including operating instructions, appendices, and maintenance documentation.
  • Organize, edit, and maintain technical documentation and revision histories.
  • Confer with stakeholders to establish technical specifications and determine subject matter for publication.
  • Contribute to AI‑focused internal tools that enhance employee productivity and experience.
  • Uphold UX writing, content design, and content strategy standards across deliverables.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or communications‑focused discipline such as computer science, English, journalism, or communications, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience

  • Senior‑level experience producing technical, instructional, or UX‑focused content for technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience creating documentation and UI content within complex systems or enterprise environments.

Core Skills

  • Advanced writing, editing, and proofreading capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of UX design principles and content strategy.
  • Experience with taxonomy development and terminology governance.
  • Ability to read and interpret programming or technical code at a foundational level.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to think strategically about content development, deployment, and scalability.

Portfolio Requirements

  • Portfolio required, with samples demonstrating UI writing and UX content problem‑solving.
  • Samples should show how content decisions improved clarity, usability, or user outcomes.
