BACKGROUND

The McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI) is a year-long fellowship program designed to provide real-world experience for individuals pursuing careers in sports. Founded on the core values of John McLendon—Integrity, Education, Leadership, and Mentorship—the program places fellows within collegiate athletic departments and sports organizations nationwide to develop professional skills and industry experience.


SUMMARY

The Athletics Photographer reports to the Associate AD, Communications, and will assist the department to capture high-quality images of athletics events, student-athletes and related activities. The Athletics Photographer must have a strong understanding of intercollegiate sports and produce visual content that enhances the University of Miami and showcases our student-athletes.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coverage of home and away athletic events.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of promotional photo shoots.
  • Maintaining working archive of images with metadata, including captions, location information, relevant searchable keywords, etc.
  • Providing non-game coverage of team-specific needs, including recruiting photo shoots, practices, team outings, etc.
  • Providing coverage for various departments across Miami Athletics
  • Providing stock imagery of facilities, fans, campus materials, as needed.
  • Meeting with creative staff and sport information directors on photo usage for content and to meet creative goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong interest in athletics, sports marketing, event management, or collegiate athletics administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and athletic event schedules as required.
  • Passion for learning and professional growth within the sports industry.


Portfolio Requirement: To be considered, candidates must submit an online portfolio featuring recent photography work that demonstrates their technical skills, creativity, and visual storytelling ability. Portfolios showcasing experience with live events, action photography, sports photography, and/or branded content are highly preferred.
