Associate General Counsel
Location: Denver, CO, Dallas, TX, or Phoenix, AZ
Compensation: $240,000 to $295,000 base + bonus + benefits
About the Role
This is a senior in house legal leadership opportunity with a rapidly growing, nationally operating construction and industrial services organization. The Associate General Counsel will serve as a strategic legal partner to executive leadership and operational teams, supporting complex construction operations across multiple jurisdictions.
The role offers significant scope and autonomy, blending hands on contract work with high level advisory responsibilities across construction law, commercial transactions, employment matters, real estate, and corporate governance. This individual will play a critical role in risk management, dispute strategy, and long term business growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements including construction contracts, change orders, commercial contracts, real estate documents, and employment related agreements
• Partner closely with executives and business leaders to identify, mitigate, and manage legal and operational risk
• Support the General Counsel on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and strategic legal initiatives
• Oversee collections, lien enforcement, and complex contract disputes using internal and external resources
• Manage litigation strategy and relationships with outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions
• Provide legal guidance on employment and labor matters including compliance, workplace disputes, and HR policy issues
• Advise on real estate matters including leases, landlord disputes, and property buildouts
• Support corporate development efforts such as mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and enterprise risk assessments
• Act as a trusted legal advisor to business units operating across multiple states
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor from an accredited and nationally recognized law school
• Active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction
• 10+ years of legal experience with a combination of law firm and in house counsel roles
• Minimum of 5 years of substantive experience in construction law and complex commercial contracts
• Broad legal background spanning construction, commercial transactions, litigation, and employment law
• Proven experience handling sophisticated disputes, lien matters, and high value collections
• Ability to operate independently in a fast paced, high accountability environment
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and strategic problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at the executive level
Preferred Experience
• Deep experience advising construction or specialty contracting organizations
• Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and legal risk management in construction environments
• Experience with corporate governance, compliance frameworks, and business licensing
• Demonstrated success in dispute avoidance and proactive risk mitigation strategies
• Exposure to additional practice areas such as arbitration or intellectual property
