Staff Software Engineer | Applied AI / Voice AI

📍 London | 5 days onsite (Central London - Near Old Street)

💰 £150k–£250k + meaningful equity

This is a great opportunity to join a well-funded, YC-backed Series A AI startup in London building AI voice agents used by real businesses to automate customer conversations, scheduling, and operational workflows.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer who is a builder at heart, enjoys working close to customers, and wants genuine ownership in an early-stage environment.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and ship AI products end-to-end, from identifying the problem through to production
• Develop agentic and Voice AI systems used by real customers
• Build across Python, TypeScript, APIs, event-driven systems and cloud infrastructure
• Work directly with customers and non-technical stakeholders to understand problems, scope solutions and deliver outcomes
• Build integrations with third-party platforms and CRM systems
• Help shape technical standards, architecture and product direction as the engineering team grows

What we’re looking for

• Around 5–10 years' full-stack software engineering experience, ideally backend-leaning
• Meaningful hands-on experience building and shipping AI products end-to-end
• Strong experience with agentic systems, rather than purely general ML or Data Science
• Early-stage startup experience, ideally Series A or earlier
• Experience working directly with customers and non-technical stakeholders
• A Computer Science degree

Technical skills

• Strong full-stack proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript
• Excellent async Python experience in production environments
• Hands-on experience with async coroutines, httpx and AsyncOpenAI
• Strong understanding of production-grade error handling in asynchronous systems
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure including Kubernetes, serverless and distributed systems
• Experience with Voice AI, event-driven systems and/or CRM integrations

You’re a product-minded engineer and builder, not someone focused primarily on research, traditional ML or Data Science.

And importantly, you must be able and happy to work 5 days per week onsite in London.
