Principal Software Engineer

London | Hybrid (3 days onsite) | Salary £170K – £200K base | OTE £340K – £400K | 100% cash bonus + carry

About the Opportunity

This opportunity sits within a global AI product incubator backed by one of Europe’s leading software investors with over $100B in assets under management.

This is not consulting. This is not advisory. This is product building.

The model is simple and powerful: conceive, build, and launch revenue-generating AI products directly inside established B2B software and services businesses. Each product is developed in focused 9–18 month sprints and launched into companies with existing customers, infrastructure, and go-to-market engines.

Startup speed. Institutional backing. Immediate impact.

The Role

This is not an ivory-tower architecture position.

You will:

  • Lead product engineering across multiple AI products
  • Set technical direction while remaining deeply hands-on
  • Build from 0 to 1 and scale to production
  • Make architectural decisions that impact thousands of users from day one
  • Mentor and elevate world-class engineers
  • Act as a technical co-leader alongside product and commercial stakeholders

You will write production code. You will review critical PRs. You will ship.

What Makes This Different

  • You build real AI products inside real businesses
  • You operate with autonomy and true ownership
  • You move at startup velocity with long-term backing
  • You help shape multiple industries, not just one

This role suits engineers who want technical depth, product influence, and commercial relevance in equal measure.

Tech Environment

  • Python
  • FastAPI
  • Kubernetes
  • AWS or GCP
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Applied AI systems and LLM integration at scale

What We’re Looking For

This is a selective search for exceptional profiles.

You likely:

  • Have built and scaled external, customer-facing products from zero
  • Have led senior engineering teams without stepping away from the code
  • Understand distributed systems and cloud-native architecture deeply
  • Think commercially, not just technically
  • Actively leverage AI tools and LLMs in your engineering workflow
  • Thrive in high-ownership, high-ambiguity environments

Builders thrive here. Observers do not.

Interview Focus

Be prepared to discuss:

  • An external, customer-facing product you built from 0 to 1
  • How you’ve implemented AI tools and LLMs into your workflow
  • Experience dealing with C-suite executives and founders
