Controls Engineer – Contract
Location: Long Beach, California
Pay Rate: $50–55/hour
Schedule: Full-Time
Benefits: Begin Day 1
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support electrical design and automation upgrades for mechanical and hydraulic power stamping presses. This role is ideal for someone with strong PLC programming experience and a background in industrial automation and controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and modify HMI, PLC, and Safety PLC systems
- Develop hardwire, panel, and field device layouts using AutoCAD Electrical
- Perform risk assessments for projects, including hardware procurement and installation timing
- Supervise installation activities, including engineers, electricians, and millwrights
- Support full line commissioning, including PLC, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Review and verify designs during customer buyoffs
Technical Responsibilities Include:
- HMI programming using GP-Pro on Proface hardware
- PLC programming using Studio 5000, RSLinx, IAB, Step 7, and other platforms
- Safety PLC design using Allen-Bradley and Siemens systems
- Creating and modifying layouts using AutoCAD Electrical and IAB
Requirements:
- BS in Electrical Engineering/Technologies, technician degree, or equivalent experience
- PLC programming experience (Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Siemens required)
- AutoCAD Electrical experience
- Electrical hardware design and modification experience
- Experience with equipment installation, demolition, and commissioning
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel, including to Canada and Mexico
- Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed
