Tool Maker

Direct Opportunity | $40.10 + $0.50/hour shift premium

Tool Room Shift hours: 2:45 pm – 11:15 pm

 

 

Position Overview:

The Tool Maker is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, fixtures, and molds in the production of automotive components. Working closely with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams, the Tool Maker ensures that all tooling supports efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes, or models
  • Design, maintain, and improve tools
  • Troubleshoot dies in presses and on the bench
  • Prepare templates and sketches, and determine work processes
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
  • Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining
  • Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), verniers, calipers, micrometers, and electronic measuring devices
  •  Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools
  • Test completed tools, dies, jigs, or fixtures for proper orientation
  • Operate machines such as lathes, drill presses, punch presses, shapers, and grinders to fabricate dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures
  • Repair and rework dies, tools, jigs, etc. as per blueprints/engineering drawings/sketches/verbal instructions
  • Clean, check, and lubricate machines to maintain proper operation
  • Select proper material, heat treat, and process for tooling requirements
  • Previous experience in Tool & Die (preferably stamping and/or automotive)
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances (+/- half a thou)
  • Understanding of stamping presses and how they affect die performance and part quality
  • Tool & Die CoQ, or 8 years of equivalent experience covering all aspects laid out in the Tool & Die apprenticeship program
