R&D Lab Operations Technician roles & responsibilities include:

  • Supporting activities in the evaluation building including visiting team members, technical support for site improvements, and logistical support for visiting vendors.
  • Repair and maintenance for the test facilities, including the Hydrogen Station, and the Fuel Cell Bench.
  • Work in maintaining and troubleshooting high voltage and high-pressure systems.
  • Parts/consumables ordering including inventory management.
  • Perform routine maintenance where necessary of facility systems, test equipment, associated peripheral equipment, etc.
  • Take part in and support development of Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) prior to commencing work.
  • Able to learn new skills in a fast-paced environment as technology evolves.
  • Issue daily, weekly and/or periodic general and technical reports where necessary.
  • Some overtime (average: 1-hour per day) and travel (~30%) is expected.


Requirements:

Safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements – to be provided by the agency when required:

  • Prescription Safety Glasses – must conform to ANSI Z87.1-1989.
  • Safety Shoes (EH and/or SD rated) – specific to job function.


Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Power Plant Technician, Generator Technician, or in a transferable industry.
  • Knowledge & experience in inspecting, testing, diagnosing & repairing facility systems (high voltage, HVAC, automatic transfer switches, etc.).
  • High voltage and low voltage experience is a must.
  • High voltage certification (1000V AC/DC) is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, wiring diagrams (for systems and instrumentation).
  • Experience in commissioning new equipment such as generators.
  • Good driving record – no accidents or traffic violations within the last 3 years.
  • Proficient with Windows, email, MS Word, and Excel (agency to submit results of a computer aptitude test demonstrating experience level).
  • Excellent communication & organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding & working knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical systems.
  • Works well independently – without direct supervision.
  • Capable of adapting to a continuously changing work environment – including business travel to support satellite locations.
  • Fabrication experience (machine shop, MIG & TIG welding, etc.).
