The Philanthropy Officer, Major Gifts is a key member of our growing development team, and you will play a vital role in fueling Scott Mission’s transformative work. You will lead the strategy and relationship-building for a portfolio of up to 150 donors, helping secure major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
You’ll collaborate across departments—Philanthropy, Marketing, Ministry, and Operations—to create powerful donor experiences that align with their passions and our mission. You’ll help shape a culture of generosity, deepen donor relationships to ensure every donor feels valued, and drive lasting impact across Toronto.

This is a full-time, permanent role located in Toronto, Ontario.
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Act as primary manager for a portfolio of up to 150 donors.
- Identify, cultivate, and play a lead role in soliciting and closing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Working with colleagues and volunteers to recommend and implement short, intermediate, and long-term major gifts cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
- Plan and implement activities (volunteer experiences, tours, meetings) for major gift donors, using existing activities as appropriate.
- In consultation with legacy giving, integrate planned gift objectives into major donor requests.
- Collaborate with the mid-level donor program on donor migration.
- Work with Program, Operations, and Marketing & Communications colleagues to develop major gift materials (proposals, stewardship materials).
- Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual activity to achieve individual performance measures.
- Track and report relationship management activity using Raiser’s Edge.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with other team members across Scott Mission.
- Participate in regular Marketing & Philanthropy staff and organization-wide meetings, and develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with other team members.
- Learn of the Mission’s work in-depth, and actively stay abreast of program activity in relation to donor interests in order to provide relevant and meaningful information or arrange meetings/communications with program experts where required.
- Adhere to Scott Mission’s gift recognition and privacy policies.
- Professionally represent Scott Mission and its core values in all forms of communications and interactions.
- Commit to providing servant-leadership nourishing a truthful, forgiving, approachable, joyful, and healthy environment.
Qualifications:
- Four years of fundraising experience, with major giving program experience preferred.
- CFRE designation secured or being worked towards.
- Experience with and working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge.
- Well-developed computer skills (Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of and operating according to the AFP guidelines & Donor Bill of Rights.
- Membership in a Christian church, a clear commitment to live out your faith, and agreement with the Statement of Faith of Scott Mission.
