Design & Project Consultant - Residential Remodeling

Gordon Reese Design Build - Walnut Creek, CA

Pay: $100,000-$160,000 per year - total target compensation

Are you a designer who loves the details — but also loves the conversation? Do you love the creative work — the space planning, the 3D walkthroughs, the perfect tile layout — but also want to be in the room when clients say yes? Are you the kind of person who can run a qualification call in the morning, measure an as-built in the afternoon, and present a material palette by end of day?

We're looking for a Design & Project Consultant — a rare hybrid who can own clients from first call through design hand-off. If you're a detail-oriented designer who genuinely enjoys people — we'd love to meet you.

About Us

Gordon Reese Design Build is over 40-year-old, family-owned design-build remodeling firm in Walnut Creek, CA. We guide busy homeowners through the design and construction of their dream spaces with price certainty, minimal stress, and eco-friendly methods. Our no-change-order guarantee and 3D walkthrough technology set us apart. We're a close-knit team of nine that values balance, continuous improvement, and personal responsibility — and we give back through Arm of Care, Save Mount Diablo, and community remodeling seminars.

Summary of Responsibilities

We're seeking a Design & Project Consultant to own clients from first call through design hand-off. This is a dual role: you'll qualify leads and guide prospects into signed design agreements (reporting to the CEO), then execute conceptual design, material selections, and permit-ready plan sets in Chief Architect (reporting to the Design Project Manager).

This is a high-ownership role at a growing company — perfect for a detail-oriented designer who enjoys client interaction and wants real variety, real autonomy, and real earning potential.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct qualification calls using our Sandler-style playbook
  • Run feasibility studies/in-home consultations
  • Develop conceptual designs, space plans, and 3D walkthroughs in Chief Architect
  • Manage complete material selections down to the finest detail
  • Produce code-compliant plan sets for permitting and field execution
  • Procure all materials, fixtures, and finishes with budget alignment
  • Lead structured hand-offs to estimation, production, and field teams
  • Represent GRDB at remodeling seminars, real estate offices, and community events

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in residential architectural design, interior architecture, or high-end design-build remodeling
  • Bachelor's degree or certifications in Interior Design, Architectural Design or related field is required
  • Portfolio showing residential remodeling projects and drafting skills
  • 3D walkthrough capability (live camera movement, not just static renderings)
  • Proficiency in Chief Architect (or AutoCAD/Revit with willingness to learn)
  • High emotional intelligence; adaptable
  • Comfortable with client interaction and sales conversations (we'll train on Sandler)

What We Offer

  • Base salary + commission. OTE: $100,000-$160,000 per year
  • 401K with matching
  • Health insurance
  • Profit sharing (quarterly)
  • Cell phone + fuel stipend, mileage reimbursement
  • 12 paid holidays, paid vacation/sick days
  • MacBook, iPad, Chief Architect, structured training
  • Monday–Friday, 8–5; no required weekends
  • Path to management as we scale

How to Apply

  • Submit your most recent resume and portfolio showcasing your most recent residential projects. We can’t wait to meet you!

We have a formal recruiting process and have a relationship with Zephyr Connects LLC, whom we use for the screening and hiring process. If you are selected for the next step you will get instructions from Svitlana Diak within 3 days of your submission. Everyone will be contacted.
