General Manager – Mechanical Construction

On-site in Pasadena, CA

A well-established mechanical construction organization is seeking a General Manager to lead a growing operation serving commercial and institutional customers across Southern California. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who knows how to build strong teams, improve execution, and create the structure needed to scale a business with confidence. The right leader will step into a visible role with broad influence across operations, financial performance, customer relationships, and long-term growth.

This position is ideal for a proven builder of teams and processes who can balance field credibility with business discipline. You will help shape direction, strengthen accountability, and drive results across preconstruction, project delivery, and customer experience. The company is looking for a leader who brings urgency, sound judgment, and a practical approach to running a healthy, profitable operation.

What You Will Do

  • Direct day-to-day operations for a mechanical construction business supporting HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related building systems work.
  • Lead performance across revenue, profitability, backlog, labor utilization, and cash management.
  • Partner with ownership and internal stakeholders to set operating priorities, establish performance expectations, and support sustainable growth.
  • Oversee work from preconstruction through project closeout, ensuring strong coordination across estimating, project management, field execution, purchasing, billing, and collections.
  • Guide bid strategy and project selection, focusing on the right mix of opportunity, resource capacity, risk profile, and margin potential.
  • Improve job cost visibility, forecasting accuracy, schedule control, and change management practices across the business.
  • Build and deepen relationships with general contractors, end users, and industry partners to support repeat work and long-term market presence.
  • Develop a culture of accountability, communication, and operational excellence across office and field teams.
  • Coach and mentor managers, supervisors, and emerging leaders while strengthening the overall leadership bench.
  • Promote a consistent standard for safety, quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction across all projects.

What We Are Looking For

  • Ten or more years of leadership experience in mechanical construction, commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, or a closely related environment.
  • Prior success leading operations, projects, or a business unit with meaningful responsibility for financial and operational results.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, project delivery, field coordination, labor planning, procurement, billing, and project controls.
  • Experience managing KPIs such as gross margin, backlog, forecast accuracy, labor productivity, and cash flow.
  • Ability to bring structure to a growing business while remaining hands-on and highly engaged with teams and customers.
  • Strong communication skills and the credibility to lead both office staff and field personnel.
  • Sound judgment in project selection, team development, and operational decision-making.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction workflows, customer-facing relationship management, and performance improvement initiatives.
