⚡ Senior Electrical Design Engineer | Pittsburgh | $190k + Equity
I’m looking for a seriously strong Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a venture-backed stealth startup building new American manufacturing capacity for critical electrical equipment.
This is not your typical Electrical Engineering role.
You’ll be the first dedicated Design Engineer in the business, working directly with the founder and experienced industry advisors to take their first product family from initial design through to full production.
We want an engineer who can:
• Own end-to-end product design across electromagnetic, dielectric, thermal and mechanical engineering
• Design wound magnetic equipment including transformers, reactors or similar high-voltage electrical hardware
• Work across core and coil design, windings, insulation systems and thermal performance
• Build engineering calculation packages from first principles, supported by FEA or equivalent design tools
• Understand high-voltage insulation and testing including dielectric withstand, partial discharge and temperature rise
• Design products around relevant IEEE, UL and federal efficiency requirements
• Take designs from first prototype through type testing, certification and third-party listing
• Work directly with equipment vendors, material suppliers and manufacturing to make sure designs can actually be built
• Help grow the engineering function as the company moves from first article into full production
This is a founding-team role for someone who wants genuine ownership.
We are particularly interested in engineers who have spent 5+ years designing power equipment, whether that is transformers, reactors, wound magnetic components, insulation systems or comparable electrical hardware.
You don’t necessarily need “Transformer Design Engineer” as your current job title.
What matters is that you understand the engineering behind the product and are comfortable getting into electromagnetic design, insulation, thermal behaviour, calculations, testing and manufacturing.
Experience with IEEE and UL standards, FEA, coil winding, NPI or taking a physical product through third-party certification would be particularly interesting.
Most importantly, we want a builder.
Someone who wants to see what they design actually being wound, assembled, tested and
shipped from a factory floor No sitting purely in specifications. No simply selecting equipment for a wider power system. No designing something and throwing it over the wall to manufacturing.
You’ll own it.

💰 $140,000 to $190,000 base depending on experience
