Lead Software Engineer
AI-Native Product Engineering | Melbourne | Up to $170k + Super
Some engineering leadership roles are really just project management with a technical title.
This isn't one of them.
We're partnering with an AI-first technology company building products used by enterprise customers globally. They're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help shape technical direction, elevate engineering standards and mentor a growing team as they continue investing heavily in AI-enabled product development.
You'll still be hands-on.
You'll still write code.
But you'll also be the person people look to when the path isn't obvious.
The Opportunity:
You'll work closely with Product, Design and Engineering leadership to solve complex technical problems, guide architectural decisions and help a talented group of engineers deliver high-quality software faster and smarter.
This is a role for someone who enjoys leading from the front.
Not through process.
Through credibility.
What You'll Be Doing:
• Leading delivery of complex technical initiatives end-to-end
• Designing scalable systems and influencing architecture decisions
• Mentoring and coaching engineers across the team
• Driving engineering best practices and technical standards
• Building across Python, Node.js, React and Next.js environments
• Working across AWS and GCP cloud platforms
• Leveraging AI-assisted development workflows to improve productivity and quality
• Partnering closely with Product and business stakeholders
• Contributing to hiring, technical strategy and team growth
What We're Looking For
You'll likely have:
• Strong commercial software engineering experience
• Previous Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer or Technical Lead experience
• Expertise in Python, Node.js or both
• Modern frontend experience (React / Next.js preferred)
• Strong cloud experience across AWS and/or GCP
• Experience mentoring engineers and lifting team capability
• Excellent communication skills and product thinking
• A genuine interest in AI-assisted software development
You don't need to be an AI researcher.
But you should be excited about where engineering is heading and curious enough to help shape it.
