💻 Development Team Lead | Malta | PHP
I’m looking for an experienced Development Team Lead to join a growing technology business in Malta.
This is a proper technical leadership role for someone who has managed strong engineering teams, understands complex software environments and still has enough technical depth to challenge, guide and support senior developers.
Strong commercial PHP experience is essential.
You’ll be leading a development team responsible for business-critical platforms where reliability, scalability and consistent delivery really matter.
What you’ll be doing:
🔥 Leading, mentoring and developing a team of software engineers
💻 Using your PHP development background to provide strong technical guidance
🚀 Owning delivery across the full software development lifecycle
🧠 Turning product and technical requirements into clear, achievable development plans
⚙️ Working across complex, multi-system and high-availability applications
📈 Managing performance reviews, objectives and engineer development
🤝 Working closely with Product, DevOps, Architecture and senior technical stakeholders
🔧 Identifying delivery risks, technical blockers and team issues
✅ Improving engineering processes, coding standards and development best practice
📊 Providing clear updates around delivery, priorities and risks
What I’m looking for:
✅ 5+ years hands-on software development experience
✅ Strong commercial PHP experience
✅ Significant experience leading and managing software development teams
✅ Experience managing senior engineers
✅ Strong understanding of scalable, high-availability software platforms
✅ Good knowledge of the full software development lifecycle
✅ Experience working closely with Product, DevOps and Architecture teams
✅ Agile / structured software delivery experience
✅ Strong leadership, communication and people-management skills
⭐ Experience working within a regulated or high-transaction technology environment would be beneficial
This would suit someone who enjoys the people side of leadership but still wants to stay close enough to the technology to genuinely influence how things are built and delivered.
