Technical Project Manager - Retail

Permanent | $160-190k+super

Laverton North - 4 days onsite

THE COMPANY

Our client is a well-established, privately owned retail business with a national footprint, multiple consumer brands, and a logistics arm that supports their end-to-end supply chain. They've been around long enough to know what they're doing, but they're moving fast enough that they haven't stopped learning.

A new technology leadership team is driving a significant uplift across their entire tech stack — ERP, POS, data, digital and customer experience. Investment is committed, the mandate is real, and the people making decisions actually understand what they're asking for. This isn't a business that talks about transformation and then stalls at the first sign of complexity.

THE ROLE

You're coming in as the PM anchor across a busy and growing technology portfolio. That includes ERP, POS, pricing, real-time reporting (Microsoft Fabric + Power BI), demand planning, warehouse automation, a B2B customer portal, AP automation, merchant facility work, and a stream of API and integration projects. More is coming.

This isn't a 'run the process' PM role. You'll be expected to understand what you're managing — scope, technical decisions, business trade-offs, the lot. You'll run SteerCo governance, challenge vendors, protect the team from scope creep, and translate complexity into something the exec team can actually act on. Strong BA capability is a genuine advantage here.

Communication is a big part of this. When someone asks what's changing in a particular module ahead of a go-live, you can answer without blinking — because you've tracked it all in a single source of truth and you know your portfolio cold. That's the bar.

WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR

Retail technology background is non-negotiable — mid-size retail is the sweet spot. If you've spent your career as one cog in a very large machine at a major national chain, this probably isn't the right fit. They need someone who's had genuine cross-functional exposure, dealt directly with the business, and owned delivery end to end.

Technical enough to be dangerous. You don't need to write code, but you need to understand ERP architecture, API integrations, data platforms and MACH principles well enough to ask hard questions and spot when someone's telling you what you want to hear.

Strong on governance, without being the governance police. You'll bring structure and accountability to a team that's building good habits — and you'll do it in a way that earns respect rather than resentment.

Backbone matters here. You'll be working with senior stakeholders across the business and you'll need to hold the line on scope, timelines and quality — politely, but firmly.

The tech you'll be working across:

  • ERP (Pronto Xi or similar mid-market ERP)
  • POS and merchant systems
  • API and middleware integrations
  • Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
  • WMS and warehouse automation
  • B2B digital portals and CX platforms
  • SaaS/PaaS platforms
