WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a WordPress Developer with 3–4 years of experience who enjoys building modern, custom marketing websites from the ground up—not assembling pages with visual builders. You’ll thrive in this role if you’re curious, detail-oriented, enjoy solving technical challenges, and take pride in writing clean, maintainable code that your teammates will confidently support long after launch.


IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Build and maintain custom WordPress websites using modern WordPress development practices, including Gutenberg, Block Themes, Site Editor, custom blocks, and plugin integrations.
  • Develop a custom marketing website from approved designs while maintaining high standards for code quality and long-term maintainability.
  • Create reusable components and structured content patterns that balance design fidelity with scalability.
  • Build landing pages, forms, structured content, analytics tracking, and SEO-friendly experiences focused on marketing performance.
  • Participate in Git-based workflows, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, releases, and documentation.
  • Partner closely with designers, QA, marketers, and developers to troubleshoot issues and deliver polished user experiences.
  • Optimize websites for performance and Core Web Vitals through image optimization, lazy loading, preloading, font optimization, and layout shift improvements.
  • Support website enhancements, content migrations, integrations, post-launch improvements, and ongoing maintenance across multiple WordPress properties.
  • Follow security-minded development practices and contribute to code that remains easy to maintain throughout long client engagements.


YOU’LL SUCCEED IF YOU HAVE

  • 3–4 years of professional WordPress development experience, ideally within an agency or multi-client environment.
  • Strong experience building with Gutenberg, custom blocks, structured patterns, and/or Advanced Custom Fields (ACF).
  • Experience developing or customizing WordPress themes.
  • Strong PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals.
  • Solid CSS skills beyond utility frameworks, with the ability to build custom interfaces without relying solely on tools like Tailwind.
  • Experience integrating marketing technologies, including forms, analytics, SEO, caching, and consent management platforms.
  • Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong debugging skills across browser developer tools, plugin conflicts, and third-party integrations.
  • Experience collaborating with designers, UX teams, marketers, and QA throughout the development lifecycle.
  • A quality-first mindset with an understanding that maintainable code is critical for long-term client success.


NICE TO HAVE

  • WooCommerce experience, including checkout optimization, payment and shipping plugins, and catalog organization.
  • Strong Shopify experience, including theme development, storefront customization, or Shopify app integrations. While this role is primarily focused on WordPress, Shopify experience is highly valued as Hiebing continues to expand its Shopify practice.
  • Experience with WP-CLI, Composer, deployment automation, and modern WordPress build pipelines.
  • Experience implementing WordPress security hardening best practices.
  • Experience working within WP Engine hosting environments.
  • Familiarity with GA4, Google Tag Manager, consent tools, A/B testing platforms, email marketing platforms, and CDPs.
  • Accessibility knowledge, including WCAG fundamentals.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot while maintaining code quality.

This role was created to support a new custom WordPress project after the team’s dedicated WordPress developer moved on. You’ll help build a modern marketing website while working alongside experienced developers, designers, and strategists in a highly collaborative environment. This is a full-time, 2-month project with the opportunity to continue supporting future WordPress projects, ongoing maintenance work, and potential Phase 2 enhancements as the agency’s digital practice evolves.
