Position Overview
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operations of [Company Name]’s network of gas stations, convenience stores, and related business units. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the COO will ensure that operational strategies align with the company’s long-term goals, driving efficiency, profitability, and a superior customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations across all gas station and retail locations, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance performance and consistency.
- Lead and mentor regional and site-level managers to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) in sales, margins, labor, and customer satisfaction.
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company’s growth strategy, including new site development, acquisitions, and market expansion.
- Drive operational improvements through process optimization, technology integration, and data-driven decision-making.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks while ensuring business continuity and regulatory compliance.
Financial Management
- Manage operational budgets, cost controls, and profitability targets across all business units.
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with the finance team to forecast, plan, and report operational performance metrics.
Customer Experience & Brand Management
- Ensure consistent, high-quality service and a positive customer experience across all stations.
- Oversee merchandising, pricing, and promotional strategies in coordination with the marketing team.
- Uphold brand standards and foster a customer-first culture throughout the organization.
Team Development & Culture
- Recruit, train, and develop operational leadership talent at all levels.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within operational teams.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in retail fuel, convenience stores, or multi-location operations.
- Proven success in managing large-scale operations, optimizing processes, and delivering financial results.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills.
- Expertise in operational technology systems (POS, inventory management, fuel management software, etc.).
- In-depth understanding of compliance, environmental, and safety regulations within the fuel industry.
- Financial acumen with the ability to interpret P&L statements and drive performance improvement.
