About the Job:

The Yard Hostler is responsible for the safe and timely movement, positioning, and organization of trailers, containers, and chassis within the yard. This role is essential to maintaining an efficient, well-organized, and safety-focused facility while supporting warehouse and dispatch operations.

In This Role, You Will:

• Operate a yard tractor safely to position loaded and empty containers, trailers, and chassis on private property.
• Exemplify and actively support safe operations within the yard and facility.
• Receive instructions promptly and provide ongoing, timely feedback on assignment status.
• Coordinate effectively with dispatch, warehouse supervisors, company drivers, contracted drivers, and third-party carriers.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient yard, exercising independent judgment as needed.
• Affix and remove security devices on trailers, containers, chassis, yard tractors, and yard gates.
• Inspect equipment regularly and document/report any deficiencies in a timely manner.
• Keep yard equipment and vehicles clean as circumstances allow.
• Prepare, complete, and verify required documentation accurately and legibly, including system updates in the yard computer.
• Comply with all company policies, rules, and safety procedures.
• Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Ability to safely operate a yard tractor or willingness to be trained.
• Strong awareness of safety practices in a yard or industrial environment.
• Ability to follow instructions, communicate clearly, and work independently.
• Basic documentation and computer input skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Desired:

• Prior yard hostler, yard jockey, or terminal operations experience.
• Familiarity with trailers, containers, and chassis movement.
• Experience working in logistics, transportation, or warehouse environments.
