Payroll Specialist
Responsibilities:
- Process payroll data across multiple locations, ensuring accurate and timely submission for employees in a multi-state environment
- Collect, review, and validate timesheets and payroll inputs from assigned groups
- Upload and manage payroll data within the payroll system to support processing, tax handling, and employee payments
- Support payroll operations across varying pay schedules (e.g., weekly, bi-weekly)
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate submission of payroll data
- Proactively follow up to obtain missing or incomplete information as needed
- Analyze payroll reports, identify discrepancies, and troubleshoot issues to ensure data accuracy
- Utilize Excel to sort, filter, and analyze payroll data, including working with formulas and large datasets
- Continuously evaluate payroll processes and identify opportunities for improvement, efficiency, and automation
- Collaborate with team members to support a cohesive and high-performing payroll function
- Gradually take on additional responsibilities and scope as proficiency in the role increases
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 2+ years of payroll processing experience preferred, ideally in a multi-state and/or multi-location environment
- Experience managing multiple payroll schedules (e.g., weekly, bi-weekly)
- Familiarity with payroll systems such as Paycor preferred
- Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with formulas, analyze data, and troubleshoot discrepancies
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders in fast-paced environments
- Self-motivated and able to manage responsibilities independently while staying organized and meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify and suggest process enhancements
- Professional certification such as CPP or FPC/SPC is a plus but not required
- Payroll tax experience is a plus but not required
