Our client is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support a busy Workers' Compensation Defense practice. This position is ideal for a highly organized legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working closely with attorneys to keep cases moving efficiently from inception through resolution.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in document preparation, case management, client communication, and litigation support while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to Workers' Compensation Defense attorneys.
  • Prepare, proofread, and finalize legal correspondence, pleadings, reports, and litigation documents.
  • Transcribe legal dictation, including status reports, settlement documents, conference summaries, and case-related correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical case files, calendars, and legal records.
  • Prepare Pre-Trial Conference Statements, trial exhibits, settlement documents, hearing materials, and deposition binders.
  • Coordinate attorney calendars, deadlines, hearings, depositions, and appointments.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, insurance carriers, medical providers, and court personnel.
  • Accurately record billable time and maintain compliance with firm billing procedures.
  • Utilize multiple legal software platforms and online systems while troubleshooting basic technical issues as needed.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing telephone calls and assist with general office support.
  • Perform additional legal and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary experience within a Workers' Compensation Defense law firm.
  • Strong understanding of workers' compensation litigation procedures and legal terminology.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Word.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat and cloud-based document management systems (Dropbox or similar).
  • Excellent typing, proofreading, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is required; familiarity with VTransact and EAMS is highly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and legal staff.
