🏗️ Senior Design Engineer – Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB)

📍 Phoenix, AZ (On-Site)

💰 $110,000 – $150,000 per year (DOE) + Comprehensive Benefits

🏢 Our client is a national leader in pre-engineered metal building design, fabrication, and erection

About the Company

Our client is a recognized industry leader in pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) design and manufacturing — delivering custom, high-quality structures from concept through fabrication and erection. With projects spanning commercial, industrial, agricultural, aviation, and storage sectors, they are known for precision engineering, innovation, and excellence in execution.

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering group that values craftsmanship, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Design Engineer with a deep background in PEMB structural design. In this hands-on role, you’ll perform complex analysis and engineering for full building systems and components — ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.

You’ll play a vital role in shaping the structural integrity and performance of each project, while collaborating closely with engineering, detailing, and erection teams to deliver efficient and buildable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for complex building systems, including:
  • Primary and secondary framing (beams, columns, bracing systems)
  • Foundation and connection design
  • Crane supports, mezzanines, and standing-seam roof systems
  • Prepare and verify engineering calculations, reactions, and design models using Metal Building Software (MBS), Enercalc, and manual methods as required.
  • Ensure complete compliance with IBC, AISC, ASCE 7, MBMA, and AWS standards.
  • Design connections, bracing, and specialized structural conditions such as hips, valleys, jack beams, and canopies.
  • Apply structural engineering principles to account for live, wind, snow, seismic, collateral, and crane loads.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings for compliance prior to sealing.
  • Collaborate with detailers, fabricators, and field teams to identify and resolve design conflicts.
  • Maintain adherence to company design procedures, engineering best practices, and project specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and field support to erection crews when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 15+ years of total experience in building and foundation design, including 10+ years focused on PEMB systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in Metal Building Software (MBS), AutoCAD, and structural analysis tools (Enercalc, RISA, STAAD, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of PEMB framing integration with foundation systems.
  • Proven expertise reviewing and checking drawings for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
  • Thorough knowledge of IBC, ASCE, AISC Steel Manual, MBMA, and AWS standards.
  • Strong background with complex detail conditions such as hip/valley systems, crane loads, standing seam roofs, mezzanines, and jack beams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, fabricators, and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Tekla, SDS/2, or BIM modeling platforms.
  • Prior involvement in creating and maintaining design standards or procedural manuals.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring or reviewing work of junior engineers or designers.

What We Offer

  • 💰 Competitive base salary: $110,000 – $150,000 (based on experience)
  • 🩺 Full benefits package — medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 💼 401(k) with company match
  • 🕓 Generous paid time off and company holidays
  • 🧠 Collaborative, engineer-led culture built on precision, innovation, and respect
  • 🧱 Opportunity to work on challenging, high-profile PEMB projects nationwide
  • 🚀 Growth potential in a stable, well-respected organization

If you’re a PE-licensed engineer with a passion for metal building design and a track record of delivering quality, precision, and performance — this is your chance to join an elite team shaping some of the most technically advanced PEMB projects in the country.
