Audit Manager – Not-for-Profit (Remote, California-Based)
A well-established, Top 100 public accounting and consulting firm is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to join its growing Not-for-Profit practice. This firm has a long-standing reputation for excellence, client service, and industry expertise, and offers the resources of a large firm within a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
This is a fully remote role for candidates based in California, with occasional travel as needed.
Position Overview
The Audit Manager serves as a key liaison between leadership, clients, and engagement teams. This individual will oversee multiple audit and accounting engagements, manage staff, and play a critical role in delivering high-quality client service within the Not-for-Profit sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of audit and review engagements for multiple clients simultaneously
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients; build and maintain strong relationships
- Understand client operations, internal controls, and industry-specific risks
- Review financial statements and client deliverables for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure engagements are properly planned, staffed, and executed on schedule
- Monitor budgets, identify variances, and communicate with leadership on engagement performance
- Identify issues proactively and recommend practical solutions
- Supervise, mentor, and develop senior and staff auditors
- Participate in performance evaluations and ongoing staff coaching
- Support business development initiatives and identify growth opportunities
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Active CPA license
- Minimum of 5+ years of public accounting experience
- Significant experience auditing Not-for-Profit organizations
- Strong knowledge of:
- U.S. GAAP
- GAAS
- Uniform Guidance (Single Audits)
- Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines
