Audit Manager – Not-for-Profit (Remote, California-Based)


A well-established, Top 100 public accounting and consulting firm is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to join its growing Not-for-Profit practice. This firm has a long-standing reputation for excellence, client service, and industry expertise, and offers the resources of a large firm within a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

This is a fully remote role for candidates based in California, with occasional travel as needed.


Position Overview

The Audit Manager serves as a key liaison between leadership, clients, and engagement teams. This individual will oversee multiple audit and accounting engagements, manage staff, and play a critical role in delivering high-quality client service within the Not-for-Profit sector.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of audit and review engagements for multiple clients simultaneously
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients; build and maintain strong relationships
  • Understand client operations, internal controls, and industry-specific risks
  • Review financial statements and client deliverables for accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure engagements are properly planned, staffed, and executed on schedule
  • Monitor budgets, identify variances, and communicate with leadership on engagement performance
  • Identify issues proactively and recommend practical solutions
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop senior and staff auditors
  • Participate in performance evaluations and ongoing staff coaching
  • Support business development initiatives and identify growth opportunities


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Active CPA license
  • Minimum of 5+ years of public accounting experience
  • Significant experience auditing Not-for-Profit organizations
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • U.S. GAAP
  • GAAS
  • Uniform Guidance (Single Audits)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines
