Head of Bidding & Estimating
Northern Virginia, DC, Maryland and West Virginia | Commercial Construction
A growing commercial general contractor in the Mid-Atlantic region is seeking a high-impact Head of Bidding & Estimating to lead and modernize its preconstruction and estimating function.
This is a mission-critical leadership role responsible for building a disciplined, data-driven bidding operation that helps the company win the right projects, strengthen margins, and scale strategically over the next decade.
This is not a back-office estimating role.
We are looking for someone who can confidently lead pricing strategy, build trust with owners and clients, collaborate cross-functionally with operations and executive leadership, and help shape the future growth of the company.
The right person combines strong technical estimating expertise with executive presence, operational discipline, and a growth mindset.
What You’ll Do
- Lead all bidding and estimating efforts across commercial construction projects ranging from negotiated work to hard-bid pursuits
- Develop strategic, accurate, and competitive estimates from conceptual pricing through final submission
- Drive go/no-go decision-making and prioritize the right opportunities rather than chasing volume
- Build and maintain strong subcontractor and vendor relationships
- Present pricing, scope, and strategy confidently to owners, clients, and executive leadership
- Establish estimating processes, standards, and accountability systems that improve consistency and forecasting accuracy
- Build historical cost databases and leverage data to improve future estimating performance
- Partner closely with operations teams to align estimating assumptions with field execution realities
- Implement modern tools, technology, and AI-enabled workflows to improve efficiency and decision-making
- Help scale the business through disciplined growth and strategic project selection
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of commercial construction estimating and preconstruction experience
- Experience leading complex bids and negotiated pursuits in commercial construction
- Strong understanding of conceptual estimating, GMPs, negotiated work, and hard bids
- Proven ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills
- Strong client-facing presence and relationship-building ability
- High emotional intelligence and professionalism
- Data-driven decision maker with strong commercial judgment
- Experience building or improving estimating systems and processes
- Strong leadership mindset with accountability and ownership mentality
- Interest in leveraging AI and modern technology within estimating and operations
- Experience across industrial, athletic/recreation, education, faith-based, or commercial sectors strongly preferred

This role is based in Northern Virginia, supporting projects and clients throughout:
- Northern Virginia
- Maryland
- Washington, D.C.
- West Virginia
Preferred candidates will be located within reasonable access to the Northern Virginia market, including:
- Prince William County
- Fairfax County
- Loudoun County
- Fredericksburg region
- Surrounding Mid-Atlantic markets
