Controller
Remote | Full-Time | $75,000–$90,000
We’re partnering with a growing, project-driven services organization looking for a hands-on Controller to take ownership of its day-to-day accounting operations and bring structure, accuracy, and discipline to the finance function.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business. You’ll own the core accounting function while partnering directly with executive leadership, Operations, Project Management, and a Fractional CFO.
This could be particularly attractive for an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or experienced Senior Accountant who is already operating at a high level and ready to take the next step into full Controller ownership.
What You’ll Do
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Oversee general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and account reconciliations
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow
- Manage AR aging, collections, credit holds, and overall working capital discipline
- Maintain daily visibility into cash and support a rolling 13-week cash forecast
- Prepare variance analysis and clearly explain financial performance drivers
- Develop margin reporting by customer and project
- Support commission reporting and labor-cost tracking
- Maintain revenue and cost forecasting models and support annual budgeting
- Establish and strengthen internal accounting controls and processes
- Document accounting workflows and improve reporting systems and automation
- Partner closely with the Fractional CFO on forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Work cross-functionally with Operations and Project Management to improve financial visibility and accountability
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong hands-on experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Strong understanding of AR, AP, cash flow, and working capital
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Ability to identify discrepancies, solve root-cause issues, and improve accounting processes
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable operating in a deadline-driven, entrepreneurial environment
- Experience with QuickBooks and expense-management systems preferred
- Experience within a project-based or service-based business is highly preferred
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Fully remote
- High-visibility role with direct access to executive leadership
- Opportunity to own and improve the accounting function
- Partner directly with an experienced Fractional CFO
- Ability to create better processes, controls, and financial visibility rather than simply maintaining the status quo
- Strong opportunity for an Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller ready to step into broader ownership
Compensation: $75,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience.
The responsibilities above closely track emphasis on accounting ownership, cash/working-capital discipline, reporting, forecasting, controls and process improvement.
