We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead the preparation, review, and delivery of high-quality tax services for our clients. This role is responsible for ensuring all tax returns are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time, while also serving as a key advisor on complex tax matters and a leader within the tax team.


Position Overview

The Tax Manager oversees all aspects of tax engagements, including technical review, client advisory, and team leadership. This individual will make decisions on all but the most complex tax situations and serve as a subject matter expert for both clients and internal staff.


Key Responsibilities

Technical & Client Service

  • Perform technical review and approval of tax returns and governmental tax examinations of all complexity levels
  • Manage and delegate preparation of large and complex tax returns
  • Serve as primary client contact and maintain strong client relationships
  • Participate in client meetings and provide tax planning strategies
  • Represent clients before taxing authorities as needed
  • Communicate tax law changes and developments impacting clients

Operations & Delivery

  • Ensure smooth workflow of tax returns from preparation through delivery
  • Monitor engagements to ensure completion within budget and deadlines
  • Oversee billing and collection processes for accuracy and timeliness
  • Research and evaluate tax software for firm use
  • Prepare additional reports and special projects as requested

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop tax staff (Supervising Seniors, Seniors, Semi-seniors, and Staff)
  • Delegate work effectively and provide ongoing feedback
  • Assist in recruiting, performance evaluations, and training initiatives
  • Act as a technical resource for tax and accounting teams

Business Development

  • Participate in firm growth initiatives through networking, referrals, and community involvement
  • Support practice development efforts across industries


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s in Taxation preferred)
  • Active CPA license (required) and AICPA membership in good standing
  • 7–10 years of public accounting experience with increasing responsibility in tax
  • Minimum 1 year supervising and directing tax staff
  • At least 2 years representing clients before taxing authorities
  • Strong knowledge of current tax laws and regulations
  • Proficiency with tax preparation, research, and planning software
  • Commitment to continuing education (minimum 40 hours annually)


Work Expectations

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Occasional overtime throughout the year
  • Heavy overtime during tax season (January 1 – April 15), potentially exceeding 55 hours per week
