Senior PCB Designer (High-Speed | 12+ Layer Boards)
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior PCB Designer to support complex, high-layer-count printed circuit board programs in a fully remote environment.
This role is strictly focused on advanced PCB layout. It is not a hardware engineering position with occasional layout responsibilities. The ideal candidate designs complex, high-speed boards daily and is comfortable owning multilayer stackups, impedance-controlled routing, and detailed fabrication documentation.
Designers who thrive in technically demanding environments and take pride in precision, manufacturability, and execution will be well aligned.
Key Responsibilities
- Create complex PCB layouts from electrical schematics, netlists, mechanical inputs, and BOMs
- Develop board mechanical profiles, fabrication stackups, fabrication drawings, and complete manufacturing packages
- Design and route 12+ layer boards with impedance-controlled and high-speed requirements
- Implement and validate signal integrity constraints including differential pairs, impedance control, EMI/ESD considerations
- Load and debug schematic netlists
- Perform component placement, density analysis, and advanced routing
- Ensure designs comply with IPC and customer manufacturing standards (DFA/DFM)
- Communicate layout decisions and technical tradeoffs clearly with engineering stakeholders
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and adapt to evolving priorities
- Provide status updates to internal and external stakeholders as required
Required Technical Experience
- 5+ years of PCB layout experience
- Direct experience designing 12+ layer, high-complexity boards
- Hands-on experience with high-speed interfaces such as DDR memory, PCIe, and similar architectures
- Strong understanding of multilayer stackup development and impedance-controlled routing
- Deep expertise in Altium Designer or Siemens Expedition
- Familiarity with IPC, ANSI, ITAR, and related industry standards
- Ability to interpret schematics and understand core electronics principles
Candidates must have direct, recent experience designing high-layer-count boards in a production environment.
Preferred Experience
- HDI or advanced manufacturing exposure
- Experience in a service bureau or multi-client environment
- CID certification or equivalent credentials
- Secondary design tool familiarity (Allegro or others)
Professional Traits
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to articulate design decisions clearly
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
- Able to balance quality and schedule commitments
- Self-motivated and accountable
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary
- Non-exempt position with time-and-a-half overtime pay
- 10 paid holidays
- Paid vacation
- Health and dental insurance
- 3% retirement match
- Fully remote work environment
Why This Role
- Focus on complex, technically demanding PCB layouts
- Fully remote flexibility
- Stable, long-term opportunity
- Environment that values depth of expertise and quality execution
