We are currently in search of an Interim Director of Development for a Social Justice Nonprofit. The position is Hybrid in Chicago, IL (South Side). This is a full-time, temporary position.

POSITION TITLE: Interim Director of Development

SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week

DURATION: Temporary (ongoing)

HOURLY RATE: $45-50

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Interim Director of Development will contribute to the organization’s efforts to build external relationships and impact measurement systems, both of which are central to the organization’s sustained growth. The Director of Development is responsible for the oversight, proactive planning, and successful execution of a comprehensive fundraising program, and for positioning the organization for future success, growth, and sustainability. The Director of Development plays a key leadership role in ensuring that the organization fulfills its mission, ensures a values-based organizational culture, and accomplishes its financial goals.

Our Ideal Candidate:

·       5+ years of experience securing grants, specifically foundation and state grants

·       Experience in Action Network, or other project management platforms

·       Salesforce proficiency required

·       Experience in event management

·       Knowledge of the local/state/national nonprofit and advocacy stakeholders

·       Skilled communicator and relationship-focused leader

·       Highly personable

How You Will Spend Your Day:

Leadership and Management

• Partner with the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and Board to set and execute annual fundraising strategy and goals.
• Oversee implementation of the development plan and design strategies for growth across all fundraising areas.
• Track and report fundraising performance to the Executive Director and Board; participate in Board meetings and committees as needed.
• Collaborate on budgeting, revenue forecasting, and financial planning.
• Lead data‑driven evaluation of fundraising outcomes to inform strategy.
• Strengthen Board engagement and fundraising capacity.
• Identify new revenue opportunities and deepen investor relationships.
• Research and pursue grant opportunities; draft, submit, and manage proposals and reports.

Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Corporate Giving & Grants

• Develop strategies to grow and sustain annual individual giving.
• Align donor interests with organizational mission and priorities.
• Lead annual giving efforts, including online giving and direct mail.
• Manage and expand major gifts and planned giving programs.
• Partner with the Executive Director to design and execute philanthropic events.
• Oversee event logistics and staff/contractor support.
• Build and manage a comprehensive corporate giving strategy.
• Develop annual grant strategy; cultivate funders; manage proposals, outcomes, and reporting.

Development & Philanthropic Communications

• Develop a cohesive development communications strategy aligned with organizational goals.
• Manage donor communications for high‑level fundraising opportunities.
