We are currently in search of an Executive Director for Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service of Tompkins County (SPCS). The position is Onsite in Ithaca, New York. This is a full-time, permanent position.  


ORGANIZATION TYPE: Behavioral Health Nonprofit  

LOCATION: Ithaca, NY   

POSITION TITLE: Executive Director  

SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week 

DURATION: Permanent – Direct Hire 

ANNUAL SALARY: $96,000 - $120,000

Shape the future of crisis care in Tompkins County, NY. For 58 years, Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service of Tompkins County has provided a trusted lifeline of support. A reputable community organization, SPCS is nationally recognized and operates the third-largest Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in New York State. This Executive Director will lead SPCS into its next chapter, providing a compassionate continuum of support -- including the Ithaca LGBTQ+ Peer Support Line and comprehensive community programs.  

  

About Ithaca, New York in Tompkins County. Located in the scenic Finger Lakes region, Ithaca is a vibrant college community known for its natural beauty, progressive spirit, and strong sense of community. With a population of roughly 30,000, Ithaca is home to Cornell University and Ithaca College, bringing a diverse and engaged population to the area. Residents enjoy hiking, waterfalls, lakes, wineries, arts and culture, and the many amenities of a dynamic university town. 

  

Our Ideal Candidate 

  • Experience working in a mental health, social services, or related nonprofit organization 
  • Three to five years of Executive Director-level experience preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience with day-to-day financial management and budgeting, including partnering effectively with a CPA consultant 
  • Successful fundraising experience, including grant management  
  • Experience partnering with a Board of Directors and leading or contributing to strategic planning 
  • Strong community engagement and relationship-building skills, with a genuine interest in becoming an active and visible member of the Ithaca/Tompkins County community 
  • A strong commitment to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive workplace 

  

How You Will Spend Your Day 

  • Provide overall organizational leadership in partnership with the Board of Directors 
  • Lead strategic planning and help guide SPCS toward continued mission-driven growth 
  • Oversee organizational finances in partnership with the Board Treasurer and CPA consultant, including annual budget preparation and daily fiscal oversight  
  • Lead fundraising and development efforts, including identifying new funding opportunities 
  • Oversee HR functions, including developing, engaging & supporting staff, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit regulations  
  • Directly supervise approx. four staff members, including the Associate Executive Director  
  • Represent SPCS throughout the community, including supporting community education & outreach programs
