We are currently in search of a Finance & Accounting Assistant for a Community Development Nonprofit Organization. The position is fully on-site in Brooklyn, NY. This is a Full-time, temporary position for 3 months.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 5:30pm, Fully On-site. Tuesday - Friday may be considered for candidates who need one day off-site.
DURATION: Temporary, 3 months
HOURLY RATE: $25.00 - $30.00

This role is ideal for an accounting professional with 2–3+ years of experience who enjoys working with numbers, staying organized, and supporting a mission-driven organization. The Finance & Accounting Assistant will assist with accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, grant reporting, invoicing, and other financial tasks. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with Excel, and confident communicating with funders and internal teams.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- 2–3+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Strong experience with account and financial reconciliations
- Experience reviewing grant records and calculating outstanding and remaining balances
- Intermediate Excel skills, including working with spreadsheets and financial data
- Experience with MIP/Abila Accounting Software strongly preferred
- Experience with invoicing, including submitting invoices through government portals
- Experience preparing financial or giving reports for funders
- Comfortable presenting information and leading weekly meetings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with funders and other stakeholders
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accurate
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities and completing ad-hoc financial tasks
- Experience with PASSPORT is a plus
- Nonprofit accounting or grant-related experience is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
How You Will Spend Your Day:
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Complete account and grant-related reconciliations
- Review grant records to determine current outstanding balances and remaining amounts due
- Prepare and provide financial or giving reports to funders
- Assist with invoicing and submit invoices through government portals
- Lead weekly grants meetings and present updates using information provided by the team
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Work with MIP/Abila Accounting Software for payables, receivables, and other financial tasks
- Use Excel to organize, review, and analyze financial information
- Communicate with funders regarding financial and grant-related information
- Assist with tracking grant balances, payments, and outstanding amounts
- Support the finance team with various accounting and administrative tasks
- Complete other ad-hoc financial projects and responsibilities as needed
