We are currently in search of a Staff Accountant for a Youth Services Organization. The position is on-site in Manhattan, NY. This is a Part-time, temporary position with potential for the role to become permanent,
ORGANIZATION TYPE: Youth Services Organization

POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant
SCHEDULE: 20 hours/week to start, Mon - Fri In-person (can potentially extend to full time) (between the hours of 11am - 7pm)
DURATION: Temporary (potential for permanent)
HOURLY RATE: $26.00 - $29.00
Is This Your Dream Job? This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a mission-driven environment and is comfortable managing multiple priorities independently. The Staff Accountant will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly close and reconciliations, assisting with grants and audits, and helping strengthen accounting processes and systems. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and confident working with QuickBooks Online.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- 2–3+ years of hands-on, full-cycle accounting experience
- Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
- Strong and recent experience using QuickBooks Online, with the ability to work independently
- Experience with bank and account reconciliations and month-end close
- Experience supporting audits, financial reporting, and accounting documentation
- Strong Excel/spreadsheet and numerical skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and methodical
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with limited supervision
- Tech-savvy and comfortable learning new systems and processes
- Experience working with invoices, vendor payments, and expense reports is a plus
- Experience with Concur, ADP, Paychex, or similar financial systems is a plus
- Experience with nonprofit grants, reimbursement contracts, or fund accounting is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
How You Will Spend Your Day:
- Manage accounts payable, vendor payments, invoices, and vendor records
- Review and reconcile employee expense reports and corporate credit card activity
- Record transactions and maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online
- Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor cash activity
- Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
- Support the monthly and quarterly close processes
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Assist with monthly financial statements and internal financial reports
- Support budget-to-actual analyses and other financial reporting
- Reconcile contributions, grants, pledges, and other fundraising activity
- Support grant billing, invoicing, reimbursement requests, and grant reconciliations
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for annual audits
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation for grants, contracts, and reimbursements
- Help improve accounting workflows, processes, and internal controls
- Assist with financial analyses and special projects as needed
