We are currently in search of a Bookkeeper for a Civil Rights Nonprofit. The position is Hybrid (mainly remote) in New York, NY. This is a part-time, long-term temporary position.
ORGANIZATION TYPE: Civil Rights Nonprofit
LOCATION: New York, NY (West Harlem, but mainly Remote)
POSITION TITLE: Bookkeeper
SCHEDULE: Part-time, 20 hours/week, mainly remote with occasional onsite days, very flexible, 9 to 5
DURATION: Temporary (Early October 2025 to August/September 2026)
HOURLY RATE: $26.00 - $28.00
m Job? Working under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Bookkeeper will serve an essential role in strengthening the organization’s Finance and Accounting activities. The ideal candidate is passionate about non-profit work and has in-depth knowledge of Financial and Accounting Systems. This position will support maintaining financial data accuracy and compliance of the organization.
Our Ideal Candidate:
· 3-5+ years of Finance experience, including Bookkeeping required (will need to be over 5+ years of experience without a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field)
· QuickBooks Online required
· Strong Excel ability required (importing into QuickBooks)
· Experience with expense reports required
· AR and AP experience in QuickBooks required
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
· Bill.com is a plus
· Payroll experience is a plus
· Experience with nonprofits (knowledgeable of nonprofit structure) preferred
How You Will Spend Your Day:
· Record and/or import all financial transactions in QuickBooks Online accounting software. This includes cash deposits, expenses, AP, AR, and all financial activity.
· Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Online using dimensions, such as project, class, and location.
· Track Payable and Receivable Accounts; reconcile invoices, payments, and overdue accounts while maintaining strong vendor and client relationships.
· Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and assist with internal or external audits.
