We are currently in search of an Operations Manager for a nonprofit organization focused on food access and sustainable agriculture. The position is primarily onsite at the Union Square Greenmarket in New York, NY. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.

LOCATION: New York, NY (Union Square + Administrative Office)

POSITION TITLE: Operations Manager

SCHEDULE: Full time – Field-based on Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat; Admin work on Thurs (Remote or In-Office)

DURATION: Permanent

SALARY: $65,000 - $70,000/year + full benefits

Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager plays a critical leadership role in maintaining the daily operations of one of New York City's largest and most iconic farmers' markets. With a hands-on, field-based presence four days a week, this role oversees site logistics, team supervision, producer coordination, and stakeholder communication. The Operations Manager ensures the market runs safely, efficiently, and in alignment with city regulations and the organization’s mission of building a just and sustainable food system. You'll lead a team of site staff, communicate with farmers and vendors, manage market layouts and scheduling, and liaise with city agencies and community members while keeping the market's vibrant, welcoming spirit alive.


More junior candidates with experience in agriculture, culinary, catering, or retail are encouraged to apply!


Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 2+ years of experience in project and/or operations management.
  • Previous experience in a catering, facilities management, or retail.
  • 1+ year of supervisory experience with a people-centered leadership approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Physical ability to work outdoors for extended periods and lift up to 65 lbs
  • Valid NY driver’s license and comfort with driving a box truck
  • Strong alignment with social and racial justice in food systems

Bonus Points For:

  • Spanish language proficiency
  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, food justice, or farmers market operations.


How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Lead daily operations at Union Square Greenmarket 4 days/week, ensuring safety, organization, and efficiency
  • Supervise and train market site leads and the Union Square Operations Coordinator; conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews
  • Collaborate with internal departments on staffing, scheduling, onboarding, and HR-related needs
  • Communicate with producers regarding scheduling, attendance, and layout assignments
  • Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations; liaise with inspections, compliance, and city agencies as needed
  • Create and update site maps, reservation records, and operational documentation
  • Mediate onsite disputes and support staff in conflict resolution
  • Represent the market in community and partner meetings
  • Serve as the General Manager’s backup when they are unavailable
