We are currently in search of a Staff Accountant for a local Church. The position is On-site in Washington, DC. This is a full-time, temporary-to-permanent position.

Is This Your Dream Job? The Staff Accountant will serve as the information resource on church finances for the Senior Minister, Board, and the membership. Duties include accounting and administration of the cash flow of all church funds, regular reporting to the Senior Minister and Board to assist them in making clear-cut decisions on financial matters and assisting all staff and ministries in the budget planning process. The Staff Accountant is responsible for representing the church to financial institutions, paying invoices, supervising payroll, maintaining church records and documents, and overseeing the annual budget process.

How You Will Spend Your Day:
· Maintain accurate records of the daily inflow of cash generated by tithes, donations, contributions, and love offerings to support activities
· Maintain accurate accounting of cash and checks collected on Sunday and all other services, classes, and events
· Make deposits of all monies flowing in
· Maintain a detailed accounting of all expenses, ensuring they are charged to the proper category (e.g., book sales, Building Fund)
· Maintain accurate sub‑accounting of all categories of invested funds
· Write checks to pay for center expenses in a timely manner
· Provide accurate financial reporting on a weekly basis or as needed to the Senior Minister, Board of Trustees Finance Committee, and membership
· Expedite expenditures of funds in accordance with the approved budget, without Board approval, for products and services needed for operations as identified by the Senior Minister or Designee
· Assist the Senior Minister, Board, staff, and ministries in preparing budgets for inclusion in the overall church operations budget
· Serve as liaison between the Senior Minister, Board, staff, and ministries to ensure proper communication on financial matters
· Review purchase orders, invoices, and bills to ensure the budget is being maintained
· Oversee all aspects of financial records, including but not limited to:
o Counting of receipts and deposits
o Reviewing monthly contributions and identifying if any members have stopped giving
o Managing bills payable and assessing the reasonableness of expenses
o Reviewing record‑keeping procedures
o Payroll and taxes
o Serving as the point of contact for employee benefits (health insurance, workers’ compensation, retirement, etc.)
· Prepare, record, and file materials for the annual audit
· Perform other duties as required by the Senior Minister within the scope of the role
