We are currently in search of an Outreach Overnight Supervisor for a Housing-First Nonprofit. The position is on-site with Brooklyn and Queens. This is a full-time, permanent position.

SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri 12am – 8am (35 hours/week)

DURATION: Permanent

SALARY: $65,000

 

Is This Your Dream Job? A housing-first nonprofit is searching for an Overnight Outreach Supervisor to help people experiencing street homelessness to come indoors. This program makes regular contact with more than 2,000 street homeless individuals and connects more than 500 individuals to housing, medical and mental health services, substance abuse counseling and other essential supports each year. The caring, individually tailored attention clients receive at each stage of their journey from street to home ensures that more than 95% of people who are placed through this nonprofit remain stably housed.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Outreach Overnight Supervisor manages and supervises the overnight street outreach team and helps to triage and prioritize urgent requests or developing situations. Utilizing Harm Reduction and Housing First approaches when conducting street outreach, teams engage with individuals to determine homelessness history, services needed and appropriate placement options from the field in the moment.

 

This Supervisor creates shift schedules, ensuring continual coverage in the field and that the teams are compliant with data entry requirements in to DHS’ system per contractual requirements. This person manages their team’s response to community concerns, oversees Code Red/Blue alerts, identifies new hotspots and encampments, plans weekly canvass schedules and oversees all 9.58 assessments and removals for the shift.

 

There are multiple openings in Brooklyn and Queens.

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • NYS Licensed Masters Social Worker required (LMSW)
  • 1 year or supervisory experience required
  • Able to obtain 9.58 credentialing within first 3 months of hire required
  • Understanding of Housing First, client-centered motivational interviewing, Harm reduction models, behavioral and medical health systems
  • Experience with crisis intervention, including risk assessments and incident management
  • Excellent scheduling skills
  • Valid driver’s license from NY, NJ, CT or PA with good driving record, is a condition of employment
  • MS Office Suite proficiency required
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Housing Advocates, a Consumer Advocate, and a part-time Social Worker, providing regular performance feedback and fostering a culture of accountability.
  • Create overnight staffing schedules that ensure continuous outreach coverage, including managing coverage for absences and vacancies.
  • Oversee daily outreach operations, ensuring canvassing strategies are informed by community needs, team feedback, DHS priorities, and historical 311 data.
  • Promote best practices rooted in Housing First, Harm Reduction, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ensure compliance with program contracts, regulatory requirements, organizational policies, documentation standards, and performance benchmarks.
  • Provide leadership during complex client situations, including conflict de-escalation, Code Blue/Red responses, and involuntary removals under New York Mental Hygiene Law §9.58.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, government agencies, service providers, the NYPD, EMS, and other stakeholders to address emerging community concerns.
  • Participate in the program's on-call rotation and perform other duties as assigned.
