Careers In Nonprofits has been retained by Las Trampas to lead their search for a Director of Business Services.

 

LOCATION: Lafayette, CA (Hybrid, 3 days/week on-site)

POSITION TITLE: Director of Business Services

SCHEDULE: Full Time

DURATION: Permanent, At Will

SALARY RANGE: $140,000 DOE (Exempt)

 

Position Description:

Acting under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Business Services reviews and analyzes organizational activities and data to ensure fiscal stability of the organization. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Business Services consults and collaborates with fellow directors to ensure fiscally responsible practices and ensure the operational needs of the agency are met. She/he will also direct financial activities such as planning and budgeting, procurement, and investments for all parts of the agency.

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

·       Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and business planning, with at least 2 years’ experience in the non-profit sector

·       Extensive experience with payroll and payroll systems

·       2 years’ experience in a supervisory role

·       Strong leadership skills including problem-solving, critical thinking, vision, personal and group accountability, coaching, mentoring, and inspiring others to excel

·       Strong verbal and written communication skills

·       Dependable, analytical thinking, attentive to detail, and ability to work independently

·       Experience with accounting and computing software including Peachtree, MS Office, MS Word, MS Excel

·       Ability to interpret data and generate financial reports and program and agency-wide budgets

·       Personal vehicle to be used for company business, current and valid California driver’s license, and a driving record that meets agency standards for driving on company business.

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

·       Recommends to the Executive Director, management, and the Board of Directors corporate economic strategies, objectives and policies for the organization.

·       Recommends modifications to existing organizational programs to enhance fiscal outlook.

·       Prepares monthly reports for Program Directors and Leadership Team members which summarize and forecast financial program activity.

·       Prepares monthly reports for the Board of Directors, which summarize and forecast organization business activity and financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on present and expected operations and provides such reports in an accurate and timely fashion.

·       Directs preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.

·       Advises the Executive Director and Program Directors on fiscal regulations and the organization’s financial status and progress in strategic initiatives relating to finance.

·       Directs implementation of the organization’s capitalization policy.

·       Develops, reviews, and updates organizational accounting procedures and practices according to accepted accounting practices and board policies.

·       Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Finance Committee, and the Audit Committee, arranges for and prepares documentation for audits of the organization’s accounts.

·       Receives, records, and authorizes requests for disbursements in accordance with budget and organizational policies and procedures.

·       Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.

·       Maintains organizational accounting records, contracts, licenses, and other documents pertinent to the operations of the organization according to the organization’s policies and procedures and regulations.

·       Monitors financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.

·       Selects and supervises accountants, network administrators, and human resource personnel.

·       Develops and maintains relationships with banking, insurance, investment, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.

·       Coordinates facility maintenance to meet the needs of individuals served by the organization and meet current regulations and requirements.

·       Negotiates contracts with the organization’s major vendors such as insurance and healthcare.

·       As part of the staff team, assist with a variety of collaborative and individual projects or assignments necessary to meet the overall organization goals and objectives.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle according to California laws and regulations.

Mobility & Movement

  • General mobility including the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, move between workstations, and navigate standard office environments.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, and light physical activity associated with filing, retrieving documents, or office organization.

Manual Dexterity & Hand Use

  • Fine motor skills to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to grasp, handle, and manipulate documents, small office supplies, and digital devices.

Lifting & Carrying

  • Light lifting typically up to 10–20 pounds, such as office files, small packages, or supplies.

Vision Requirements

  • Near and mid-range vision sufficient to read printed materials, view computer screens, and review detailed documents (corrective lenses permitted).
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors when working with charts, indicators, or digital displays.

Hearing & Communication

  • Hearing ability to participate in conversations, listen during meetings, and use telephones or virtual communication tools.
  • Clear verbal communication for interacting with coworkers, clients, and supervisors.

Cognitive & Sensory Requirements

  • Ability to maintain attention, process information, and perform tasks requiring concentration and accuracy.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks, interruptions, and typical office noise levels.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work performed in a standard office setting with moderate noise, artificial lighting, and climate-controlled temperatures.
  • Use of computers, phones, printers, and other office equipment on a regular basis.
