Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and benefits administration.
- Manage and prepare budgets, state reporting, and annual audits with external auditors.
- Direct the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports and statements.
- Maintain general ledger, reconcile accounts, and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Support billing cycles and special assessments for landowners and agricultural partners.
- Serve as a financial advisor to leadership, providing analysis, projections, and recommendations.
- Supervise one direct report and act as a hands-on leader across all financial functions.
- Liaise with external vendors, auditors, and service providers as needed.
Ideal Candidate Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong technical accounting skills including payroll, benefits, budgeting, and audit support.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas); ability to learn and work with specialized billing systems.
- Prior experience in agriculture, water management, nonprofit, or other service-based industries is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Highly detail-oriented, accountable, and flexible; thrives in a small, collaborative environment.
