They are seeking a Petroleum Field Engineer to join their dynamic team — an early-career professional eager to gain hands-on experience in both office and field operations while contributing to critical engineering initiatives that drive performance, safety, and growth.

About the Role

The Petroleum Field Engineer will play a key role in the design, permitting, execution, and performance monitoring of oil and gas well projects. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys technical problem-solving, thrives in fast-paced environments, and takes pride in seeing complex projects through from concept to completion.

You’ll collaborate directly with senior engineers, field teams, and regulatory agencies, ensuring every project meets the highest safety and environmental standards while staying on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer well projects, including drilling, workover, completion, and abandonment operations
  • Develop detailed project plans, vendor recommendations, and cost estimates
  • Prepare and submit regulatory permit applications (CalGEM, DOGGR, BLM, County)
  • Oversee field execution, monitor project performance, and troubleshoot issues
  • Conduct analyses of budgets, schedules, and safety metrics to ensure continuous improvement
  • Prepare technical reports, economic evaluations, and client-ready presentations
  • Coordinate communication among internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulators
  • Mentor field and project staff, promoting a culture of safety and accountability
  • Support leadership with project planning, proposals, and operational strategy initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of oil and gas industry experience, preferably with exposure to drilling, completions, or abandonment projects
  • Experience with California permitting or other regulated environments preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional presence with the ability to interface effectively with clients and regulators
  • Self-motivated and adaptable with strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000 DOE

Work Environment

  • Full-time, Exempt
  • Field and office-based role with typical hours Monday through Friday (8–12-hour shifts)
  • Must be able to traverse uneven terrain, lift up to 25 lbs, and wear PPE in field environment
