Position Summary

The RN Director of Inpatient Services provides strategic and operational leadership for inpatient nursing units, including MedSurg, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This leader supports the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate patient care while optimizing staff performance and resource management.

This position holds 24/7 accountability for assigned departments, overseeing nursing practice, staffing, quality initiatives, and regulatory compliance across multiple inpatient units.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for nursing operations across assigned inpatient departments.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams to drive excellence in patient outcomes, quality, and safety.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based policies, procedures, and nursing standards.
  • Mentor and develop nurse leaders and frontline staff to enhance team engagement and professional growth.
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support the CNO in strategic planning and organizational development efforts.
  • Maintain compliance with all hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Required: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)


Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 2 years of progressive management experience in an acute care hospital setting (manager or full-time charge nurse level or higher).


Licensure & Certifications:

  • Active RN license in state of practice (or eligibility for licensure).
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required.
  • Additional certifications in leadership or specialty areas – preferred.


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and hospital operational expertise.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and advocate for professional nursing practice.
