We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Orthodontic Dental Lab Manager to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. This pivotal role oversees the daily operations of our orthodontic laboratory, ensuring the timely and high-quality production of a full range of orthodontic appliances such as retainers, splints, aligners, expansion devices, and bonding trays. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, team leadership, and crucial client communication to support orthodontic practices and ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Performance Requirements and Expectations


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Operational Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the daily lab workflow, including case intake, production schedules, and monitoring work-in-progress to resolve bottlenecks and meet strict turnaround times.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee appliance fabrication quality across various orthodontic devices, implement corrective actions based on remake/adjustment trends, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and lab standards.
  • Digital Workflow Management: Support and manage digital workflows, including scan processing, CAD design, 3D printing, and milling operations.
  • Training & Development: Train and mentor junior technicians on orthodontic standards and productivity, conduct performance evaluations, and support professional development initiatives.
  • Client Relations: Liaise effectively with orthodontists and practice staff to clarify prescriptions, confirm timelines, provide updates on case status, and proactively address client concerns.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation, including case notes, quality control (QC) logs, and photographic records.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in an orthodontic laboratory setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in orthodontic appliance fabrication and finishing techniques.
  • Digital Skills: Working knowledge of CAD/CAM tools (e.g., 3Shape Ortho/Appliance Designer) and experience with 3D printing workflows and digital model preparation.
  • Management Skills: Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, with the proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certification: Registered Dental Technician (RDT) status would be a significant asset.


Performance in this role will be measured by:

  • On-time case completion and reduction in appliance remakes.
  • Positive feedback from clinicians and repeat utilization.
  • Accurate documentation and adherence to production schedules.
  • Team productivity and measurable progress in technician training.
