Director of Emergency Services
Job Summary
The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered emergency care. This role oversees department operations, staffing, quality outcomes, and financial performance while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Director supports the development and execution of policies, procedures, and initiatives aligned with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads the implementation of evidence-based practices to advance patient safety, quality outcomes, and clinical consistency.
- Ensures adherence to standards of care, regulatory requirements, and accreditation guidelines.
- Monitors clinical performance metrics, benchmarks, and outcomes; drives improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management.
- Oversees equipment maintenance and readiness in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Ensures efficient patient throughput through volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning.
- Develops and enforces care coordination processes to improve safety, quality, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Directs nursing practice and unit operations, establishing policies and standards to meet patient and family needs.

- Uses patient satisfaction data and feedback tools to identify opportunities for service improvement.

Growth & Strategy
- Collaborates with administrative leaders and physicians to enhance existing services and develop new emergency care offerings.
- Identifies opportunities for service line growth, innovation, and differentiation.
- Leverages technology, community partnerships, and best practices to increase access and volume.
Financial Management
- Participates in annual budgeting, including staffing models, supply utilization, and capital planning.
- Monitors departmental financial performance, identifies variances, and implements corrective actions.
- Ensures effective labor management, productivity optimization, and responsible use of premium pay.
- Identifies and implements cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality care.

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of applicable leadership experience required
- 3 or more years of applicable leadership experience preferred
- Candidates with demonstrated success as an Emergency Department Director in a similar or higher-volume emergency department will be strongly considered
