Job Title: Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)


Location: Abilene, TX ( $5,000 relocation offered)

Shift: Days| M-F 8:00am-4;30pm


Department: Pediatrics / Women & Children’s Services


Employment Type: Permanent




Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) to join our Pediatric Services team. In this role, you will support infants, children, adolescents, and their families as they navigate hospitalization, illness, injury, and medical procedures.

The CCLS will provide developmentally appropriate education, therapeutic play, coping strategies, and emotional support to promote positive patient experiences and improve clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate preparation and education for medical procedures and hospital admissions
  • Facilitate therapeutic play and expressive activities to reduce anxiety and promote coping
  • Support patients and families during stressful situations, including critical care and end-of-life care when applicable
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and interdisciplinary team members to create individualized care plans
  • Advocate for the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients
  • Assist with bereavement support and crisis intervention
  • Document interventions and patient progress in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Participate in community outreach and family education initiatives as needed

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, or related field
  • Completion of a Child Life internship (minimum 600 hours)
  • Active Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential
  • BLS certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent pediatric hospital experience preferred

Preferred:

  • Experience in PICU, NICU, Pediatric ED, Oncology, or Surgical Services
  • Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-acuity and emotionally sensitive environments
