Director of Medical Surgical and Telemetry - RN
Position Summary
The RN Director provides strategic and operational leadership to support senior nursing leadership in overseeing patient care services across multiple units. This position is responsible for evaluating, planning, implementing, and maintaining high standards of nursing practice while ensuring regulatory compliance, staffing efficiency, and superior patient outcomes. The RN Director holds 24/7 accountability for assigned units, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, team development, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates with executive nursing leadership to establish, implement, and evaluate departmental goals, policies, and processes.
- Provides direct oversight to unit managers and clinical teams, serving as a mentor, coach, and professional role model.
- Ensures the delivery of safe, evidence-based, high-quality patient care through ongoing quality improvement, staff competency assessment, and adherence to professional standards.
- Oversees staffing plans, scheduling, resource allocation, and productivity to ensure optimal coverage and cost-effective operations.
- Drives performance initiatives focused on patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, employee engagement, and operational efficiency.
- Maintains expert knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements and ensures compliance at all times.
- Facilitates cross-department collaboration to enhance care coordination, professional communication, and patient flow.
Qualifications
Education

Required: Associate degree in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field (BSN may satisfy both requirements).

Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing or a healthcare-related field.
Professional Requirements
- Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice.
Experience
- Significant clinical experience plus a minimum of 2 years of progressive leadership experience at the manager or director level within an acute care hospital setting.
Certifications (American Heart Association or equivalent)
