Registered Nurse – Surgery

Compensation: $31 to $46 per hour depending on years of experience


Position Purpose

The Surgery Registered Nurse plays a vital role in supporting patients through all phases of surgical care. From pre-op preparation to intraoperative support and post-anesthesia recovery, you will deliver skilled, compassionate nursing care using the nursing process: assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and evaluating outcomes. This position requires attention to detail, critical thinking, and collaboration with the surgical team to ensure safe, high-quality care.


Minimum Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (required; BSN preferred)


Experience

  • Entry-level nurses welcome to apply
  • Perioperative or surgical nursing experience preferred


Licenses / Certifications

  • Active RN license in Wisconsin and/or Illinois (based on assignment)
  • Current BLS and/or CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (required, or able to obtain within 6 weeks of hire)
  • ACLS and PALS certification preferred (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe)


Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and sterile technique
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure, fast-paced surgical settings
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, monitoring, and intraoperative documentation
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical techs
  • Commitment to patient safety, advocacy, and comfort throughout the surgical experience


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care to surgical patients across pre-op, intra-op, and PACU settings
  • Assist with surgical procedures, maintaining strict adherence to aseptic technique and infection control standards
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and anesthesia support as directed
  • Anticipate surgeon and team needs to ensure smooth and efficient procedures
  • Monitor patient status and respond promptly to changes or emergencies
  • Provide education and emotional support to patients and families before and after procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-prepared surgical environment
  • Support orientation and training for new surgical nurses and nursing students as requested
