Histotechnologist - Hospital
Full Time Evening Shift: M-F, 2PM to 10PM
Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000
Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled Histotechnologist to join our team. This role involves the preparation of Cytology (Non-Gyn and Gyn) specimens, as well as various histology tasks including frozen sections and tissue submission. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Cytology specimens (Non-Gyn and Gyn).
- Operate staining and cover slipping equipment for Cytology slides; perform manual staining and cover slipping when necessary.
- Accession Thinprep specimens in the LIS, ensuring accurate patient information.
- Register Cytology/Surgical specimens.
- Download and print barcoded GYN slides.
- Performs Special Stains and evaluates for inconsistencies and confirms and/or correct before releasing slides, Checks positive controls and documents on run log(s).
- Performs Immunohistochemistries, and evaluates for inconsistencies and confirms and/or correct before releasing slides, Checks positive and negative controls and documents on run log(s).
- Performs routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting procedures on all instrumentation.
- Lines up and verifies embedded paraffin blocks against block log for technologists to cut.
- Performs QC of paraffin blocks vs. routine stained slides with documentation on block log.
- Downloads and Prints cassettes for surgical specimens as needed.

- Prepare Thinprep specimens for HPV testing and deliver to the molecular lab.
- File and label Cytology slides.
- Perform routine maintenance on Cytology instrumentation.
- Assist in Cytology FNA procedures.
- Perform frozen sections.
- Download and print cassettes for surgical specimens.
- Assist in surgical tissue submission and enter data into Meditech.
- Maintain quality control records for all equipment.
Qualifications:
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or NYS PA License required.
- Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred with one year of relevant hospital experience in Histology.
- ASCP preferred
