Job Summary
The Director of Free-Standing Emergency Services leads clinical operations, service delivery, and growth across two FSED locations. This leader ensures high-quality patient care, strong staff performance, regulatory compliance, and effective resource management. Role includes oversight of Imaging, Lab, Admitting, Security, Environmental Services, and Support Services.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Clinical Leadership
- Identify real and potential issues in service delivery and implement effective solutions.
- Drive patient experience initiatives across both FSEDs.
- Enforce emergency care standards and develop processes to ensure consistent compliance.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an ongoing emergency services program aligned with the hospital’s mission.
- Oversee PI activities, ensuring continuous monitoring and improvement of critical care aspects.
- Ensure departmental adherence to hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
People & Culture
- Lead and mentor staff; provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.
- Participate in staff rounding and identify/mentor emerging leaders.
- Apply evidence-based employee engagement strategies.
- Communicate organizational and industry updates clearly and effectively.
- Maintain compliance with all Human Resources policies.
Collaboration & Communication
- Participate in hospital and departmental committees, providing communication back to represented teams.
- Build effective relationships with internal partners to support departmental and organizational goals.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day operational excellence across both FSED locations.
- Follow Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogen protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required)
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred)
- 3+ years emergency services experience

3+ years leadership experience (preferred)
- Active RN license in the state of practice
- ACLS required
- PALS or ENPC required
- BLS required
Role Structure & Additional Details
Two FSED Locations:

City Base: ~45 patients/day; mostly low acuity; dedicated Manager in place

Alamo Heights: ~40 patients/day; older population; ~12 FTEs; Director is based here (no Manager; supported by CNCs)
Other Notes:
- Facilities are 5–6 miles apart
- Both locations operate under a major local hospital system’s emergency services division
- Direct reporting line to the Division VP of Emergency Services
Salary Max: $130,000
Incentive Bonus of 17.5% - 26.25%
Relocation: $15,000
