Director of Behavioral Health Services
Position Summary
The Director of Behavioral Health Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for designated behavioral health programs. This role oversees daily departmental functions, ensures consistent delivery of high-quality patient care, and aligns services with organizational goals and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include program development, clinical quality oversight, financial administration, and partnership with multidisciplinary teams to meet the needs of patients, families, and the surrounding community.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs, organizes, and evaluates departmental operations to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care across all behavioral health services.
- Develops, implements, and monitors clinical standards, policies, and performance improvement initiatives that support optimal patient outcomes.
- Provides leadership for behavioral health program growth, service line expansion, and alignment with organizational strategic plans.
- Oversees preparation and management of the annual operating budget and ensures responsible allocation of resources.
- Collaborates closely with medical staff, nursing leadership, administration, and community stakeholders to address service gaps and develop innovative solutions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including quality, safety, and risk management standards.
- Promotes a culture of professionalism, accountability, and therapeutic excellence through staff coaching, mentorship, and performance development.
Qualifications
Education

Required: Master’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health services within an acute care environment, including oversight of both inpatient and outpatient programs.
Licensure & Certifications
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice (multistate/compact license if applicable).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Crisis prevention/intervention certification (or must obtain within designated orientation period).
