Position Summary
The Model Room Technician is a key member of the dental laboratory team, responsible for the accurate preparation, articulation, and management of physical and/or printed models used in the fabrication of fixed restorations. This role ensures that all incoming cases are properly evaluated, poured, trimmed, and mounted according to standards to support downstream departments such as design, milling, and finishing. The technician plays a critical role in maintaining accuracy and case readiness to minimize remakes and ensure high-quality outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Case Intake: Receive, inspect, and log incoming cases, ensuring all components (impressions, models, bite registrations, prescriptions, scans) are present.

Evaluation: Review impressions and digital files for accuracy and defects; identify issues and escalate through proper channels as needed.

Model Fabrication: Pour impressions using appropriate materials (e.g., stone, die stone) following established protocols for consistency.

Finishing: Trim and finish models to proper anatomical form, ensuring clean margins and stable bases.

Articulation: Section dies and articulate cases using appropriate systems based on case requirements and laboratory standards.

Digital Workflow: Prepare models for scanning, ensuring proper orientation and readability of margins.

Technical Variety: Perform model work for crowns, bridges, implant cases, and full-arch restorations.

Quality Control: Follow QC procedures to ensure models meet internal standards prior to release.

Maintenance: Clean and maintain equipment (model trimmers, mixers, articulators) and assist with inventory management of supplies.

Workplace Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace while adhering to all company policies.
Skills & Abilities Required

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of dental anatomy and fixed prosthodontic workflows.

Problem Solving: Ability to identify defects in impressions or models and take appropriate corrective action.

Education, Experience & Residency

Residency: Must live in the Chicago, IL area.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; formal dental technology training or certification preferred.

Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience in dental laboratory model work preferred.

Digital Skills: Basic understanding of digital workflows and model scanning processes preferred.
Physical & Work Requirements

On-site Presence: Regular, predictable attendance at the Prospect Heights location.

Physical Demands: Ability to stand/sit for extended periods and lift/move items up to 25 lbs.

Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands for handling tools, materials, and small components.
